T. Pradeepa* and J. Aruna
Abstract
Today about 74% of drugs are taken orally and are found not to be as
effective as desired. To improve such characters transdermal drug
delivery system was emerged. Drug delivery through the skin to
achieve a systemic effect of a drug is commonly known as transdermal
drug delivery and differs from traditional topical drug delivery. TDDS
are of many types varying from single layer drug in adhesive to multi
layer drug in adhesive and others are reservoir and the matrix systems.
Various factors are involved, both of skin and drug, which affects the
availability of drug in the systemic circulation through the transdermal
route and are essential to be considered during designing of the system.
Keywords: Transdermal drug delivery system, patches, skin permeation, evaluation.
