Abstract
Various studies have taken a look at the connections between obesity
and IBS symptoms. Most of the studies that show a positive
association between IBS and general obesity. A 30-year-old gentleman
had been suffering from a range of IBS symptoms for over 3 years, and
symptoms included constipation, diarrhoea, and bloating of the
abdomen, frequent evacuation along with extreme fatigue and
heaviness of the body. Gradually, he noticed that within 2 years, he
had gained 10 kg of weight because of his poor diet and lifestyle. The
treatment protocol had been planned with Udwarthana for 7 days and
Takra Basti for 5 days. Along with internal medications, patient
followed a specific atharpana (non-nourishing therapy) diet that is low
in calories and high in fibre. Yoga and other kinds of physical activity (Vyayama) help
increase energy expenditure and normalize fat metabolism. A combination of Nidana
parivarjana approaches, including Shamana, Shodhana, food modifications (Pathyahara),
physical activity (Vyayama), and behavioral approaches, has shown a significant reduction in
BMI and anthropometric measurements. The symptoms of IBS was decreased. Studies need
to be conducted to support the definitive connection between obesity and IBS, as this link is
essential to the treatment of both disorders.
