Abstract

ROLE OF VYOSHADI GUGGULU ALONG WITH AGNIKARMA IN MEDOJGRANTHI W.S.R. TO LIPOMA: A CASE STUDY

Abstract

Background: Medojgranthi in Ayurveda derived from two root words, meda and granthi. Meda stands for “snehana” which stands for sneh, fat, oil etc. It means the substance which has snigdhatwa property and root word granthi has following definition according to Acharya Sushruta- when vitiated vatadi doshas further vitiate the mamsa, rakta, kapha and meda dhatus, they build a tubercle like structure which is called as granthi. These medojgranthi may correlate with lipoma in modern medical science. It is often benign soft tissue tumor, may appear solitary or multiple, movable and painless. It may growing slowly or remain constant for several years. A patient of lipoma comes to the doctor due to cosmetic purpose in painless condition than the fear of mortality and morbidity. Sometimes it may get inflammed in some patients and become a cause of continuous irritation and pain. Generally there is medicinal supportive treatment in very early stage alongwith fat restricted diets and nidan parivarjana. But as the accumulation of fat enhances further, parasurgical and surgical practices should be applied to cure, but not permanently. Aims and Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of Vyoshadi guggulu alongwith agnikarma procedure in case of lipoma, with the reduction of body fat and improvement in lipid profile. Case Details: In this single case study a 45 years female patient visited to the outpatient department of Shalya with a massive swelling localised at right scapular region from last two years. Patient was presented clinical features as no pain but the swelling was gradually increased and also complaint of uncomfortable on lying down in supine position. Size of lipoma was assessed before and during of treatment. Results and Observation: Very effective results are noticed in the reduction of size, with conservative treatment; mainly Vyoshadi guggulu and parasurgical treatment with agnikarma in last 5 months. Discussion and Conclusion: Medoj granthi is meda dominating vata kaphaja vyadhi in which vyoshadi guggulu and agnikarma procedure are very effective due to medo-kapha nashak properties.
