AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF SHUKRA DUSHTI W.S.R TO OLIGOASTHENOZOSPERMIA: A CASE STUDY

. Abstract Incidence of infertility is rising due to changed lifestyle in which male factor contributes 40-50%. Male infertility makes up half of all infertility globally, and numerous etiological factors play a significant role to it. According to Charakacharya “The man alone without offspring looks like a single tree having single branch, shade less, fruitless and with foul smell”.[1] Male factor infertility includes low quality of sperm count with decreased sperm motility. Oligoasthenozospermia is a sperm disorder that involves two disorders at the same time, Oligozoospermia (low sperm count) and Asthenozoospermia (Reduced sperm motility). The signs and symptoms of oligoasthenozoospermia can be co-related with Kshina Shukra in Ayurved. Kshina Shukra is one among the Asta-vidha Shukra dushti, in which qualitative as well quantitative vitiation of Shukra dhatu occur. So, Shukrshodhan mahakashaya are mentioned in charak samhita having the drug which are known to have shodhana properties which Improve quantity and quality of sperms like sperm count and motility etc. Shukrashodhana dravyas eliminate the disorders of semen and purify it. In this case study, patient having severe Oligoasthenozoospermia. He was treated with sodhana chikitsa (Yogabasti – Anuvasan with shukrashodhan dravya sidha taila and Niruh with Dashmool triphala kwath) followed by shamana chikitsa (Shukrshodhan dravya sidha ghritpana) for a period of 3 months.
