LITRARY REVIEW OF AGNIMANDYA W.S.R. TO AJEERNA {INDIGESTION}

. Abstract Ayurveda is the old traditional science which deals with the management and prevention of diseases. Most of the diseases arises due to hypo functioning of Agni (bio-digestive power) and it is the root cause for the development of many diseases. Ayu [long life], Bala (strength) and Varna (complexion) etc. depends on status of Agni. Agni presents in the Jathara (Stomach and Intestine) which digest and metabolize the food. Disturbed functions of Agni cause indigestion of food are termed as Ajeerna (indigestion). Ajeerna is the state of incomplete process of digestion of ingested food. The main reason for indigestion is the deranged functions of Agni. Incomplete digestion and metabolism due to disturbed digestive fire leads to formation of under processed state of food termed as Ajeerna. Ajeerna is caused by Agnimandya. Ajeerna is the most important source of production of Ama. There are 4 – 6 types of Ajeerna mentioned in Ayurveda by different acharyas. So, it is important to see the details of Ajeerna in Ayurved collectively. So, this article is focusing on the Ajeerna (Indigestion) and its Hetu in Ayurveda. Keywords: Ajeerna, Agni, Ama.
