MANAGEMENT OF MUTRASHAMRI (UROLITHIASIS) USING SHAKBEEJ CHURNA – A CASE STUDY

Abstract

Mutrashmari is one among the Ashtamahagada and is Kaphapradhan Tridoshaja Vyadhi, which is correlated with urolithiasis. It is the major cause of morbidity. Prevalence rate of renal calculus is 12% in the world[13] and 4-20% in India.[14] Many treatment modalities have been adopted in medical sciences, but it is quite expensive and also the pathogenesis behind recurrence of formation of stone cannot be avoided. Hence, it is necessary to find out an economical effective, easily available medicine to treat Mutrashmari. To evaluate the efficacy of Shakbeej, this study is taken up in which 2 gms of Shakbeej churna was given in BD dose before meal for 30 days. Changes in objective criteria (by USG) were recorded. The results reported are very encouraging, as multiple bilateral renal calculi were expelled out through urine within a period of thirty days. It provides an example, portraying the effectiveness of Ayurvedic Medicines i.e. Shakbeej in expulsion of Mutrashmari without need of surgery.
