UNMASKING THE HIDDEN BURDEN: UNDERSTANDING THE POST-COVID SEQUELAE PHENOMENON
Sowparnika Treasa Sabu*
. Abstract Long COVID sequelae, also known as post-COVID syndrome, can have a profound impact on individuals who experience persistent symptoms after recovering from the acute phase of COVID-19. These long-lasting effects can affect various aspects of a person's life, including physical health, mental well-being, and overall quality of life. Physical symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, muscle and joint pain, and brain fog can significantly limit daily activities and hinder return to work or normal functioning. The psychological impact of long COVID, including anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress, can further exacerbate the burden on individuals. The prolonged nature of these symptoms and the uncertainty surrounding recovery can lead to frustration, loss of productivity, social isolation, and emotional distress. Long COVID sequelae also place a strain on healthcare systems and resources as individuals require ongoing medical care and support. Addressing the impact of long COVID sequelae requires a comprehensive approach that includes medical management, rehabilitation, mental health support, and a focus on improving overall wellbeing for those affected by this challenging condition.
