CONCEPTUAL STUDY - STHAULYA W.S.R OBESITY

. Abstract Sthoulya is the abnormal & excess accumulation of medhodhatuandmamsa dhatu which results into pendulous appearance of sphika, udara and stana. Ayurveda has described athisthula person in AshtaNinditPurushas. Sthoulya is Santarpanjanyavyadhi. Frequent and /or excess intake of Kapha increasing foods, sedentary lifestyles, lack of mental & physical excersise are the most common aetiologicalfactors. Sthoulya can also occur due to Beeja dosha i.e Hereditary cause. The major risk related with sthoulya is that, it favours various complicated pathologies like Prameha, Kustha, Svasa, etc. It is well established fact that obesity invites life threatening complications like Cardiac Diseases, Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus, Atherosclerosis, Stroke, Gall Bladder Disease, etc. Children and adolescents who are obese are also at a greater risk for bone and joint problems, including lower backpain, decreased vertebral bone mineral content, slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE), blount’s disease, and increased fracture risk.
