FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF POLY HERBAL MOSQUITO REPELLENT CREAM

. Abstract Herbal cosmetics are becoming common in the field of beauty, fashion and medicinal purposes. The present study is to formulate and evaluate the cream containing extract of natural products containing essential oil such as Marigold and neem oil. Different types of oil in water (o/w) herbal cream are preparing by changing their concentrations of ingredients. T1, T2, T3 are three formulations prepared by changing their concentrations. The evaluations of all the formulations were done on different parameters like pH, Homogeneity, Appearance, after feel, Type of smear, Removal, Acid Value, Irritancy test, Stability study. Formulations do not show any adverse effect. The formulations show no redness, oedema, inflammation, and irritation during irritancy studies. These formulations are safe to use for the skin. These studies suggest that the composition of extract and base of cream are more stable and safer, it may produce synergistic action. Essential oil has been reported to have many pharmacological activities, one of which is their property to repel the mosquitoes and insects. The marigold infused oil is reported to be antibacterial, astringent, antifungal, used in insect bites etc. The repellent action of neem oil was evaluated against different mosquito species. 2% neem oil mixed in coconut oil provided 96-100% protection from anophilines, 85% from aedes, 37.5% from armigers, where as it is showed wide range of efficacy from 61-94% against culex mosquitos. there fore neem oil can be safer and active against mosquito repellent action on one application it shows about 68% effective for four hours.
