Dr. Sanchita Rani*, Dr. Rosy Gupta, Dr. Sahil Mahajan and Dr. Arshdeep Joshi
. Abstract Sushruta Samhita is an important treatise of Brihut Traiyee in Ayurveda and is the base of Modern Surgery. In Ayurveda the grouping/classification of crude drugs can be seen from the time of Vedic period to Nighantu times. Acharya Sushruta has given Karmatamak Vargikarna of medicinal drugs and has created 37 groups based on pharmacological actions. Each group starts with the name of the first drug. Viz; Vidarigandhadi Gana, Aragwadhadi Gana and Saalasaradi Gana etc. The group size vary from minimum 3 drugs to maximum 28 drugs. Trikatu and Haritakyadi Gana have minimum (3) components and Eladi Gana contains the maximum (28). A genuine try has been given here in this article to identify these botanically as botanical identification is the first and foremost important step in Dravya standardisation. Keywords: Sushruta Samhita, Gana, Botanical name, Family. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
