PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF FURAN DERIVATIVES: A REVIEW

. Abstract The heterocyclic compounds have a great importance in medicinal chemistry. Furan is a heterocyclic organic compound, consisting of a five-membered aromatic ring with four carbon atoms and one oxygen atom. The first furan derivative is 2-furoic acid. Furan is aromatic. The furan ring system is the basic skeleton of numerous compounds possessing cardiovascular activities. These compounds are widely employed as antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-tumor, anti-hyperglycemic, analgesic, anti-convulsant, This skeleton is an important pharmacophore considered as a privileged structure.
