POLYMER: CLASSIFICATION, METHODS, PROPERTIES, AND THEIR CHARACTERIZATION
Anjana Bhardwaj*, Dr.M.L.Kori, Vibha Devi Mishra
Abstract Polymers are known as macromolecules, are very large molecules consisting of many repeating units and are formed by a process called polymerization, which links together small molecules known as monomers. The monomers can be linked together in various ways to give rise to linear polymer(Fig.1a),branched polymer(Fig.1b) ,or cross linked polymers(Fig.1c).In these representation A is a monomer and A’ and A” are the terminal groups. The quantity x is known as the degree of polymerization, usually denoted as DP and the molecular weight of the polymer is the product of the degree of polymerization and the Molecular weight of the repeat unit.
