FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF ORO DISPERSIBLE TABLETS EMPLOYING SPHERICAL AGGLOMERATION
Nalini Shastri and Alladi Saritha*
Abstract Dissolution rate is the rate-limiting step for absorption of many orally administered drugs with poor solubility. Meloxicam belong to BCS Class II as these drugs are practically insoluble in aqueous fluids resulting in dissolution rate limited oral absorption. In the present experimental work, attempts were made to enhance the solubility and dissolution by attempting crystal habit modification by spherical agglomeration. The spherical agglomerates of meloxicam are prepared by neutralization method. Diethyl ether was used as bridging solvent. The agglomerates were characterized for the agglomerate formation and the process was optimized. Spherical agglomerates were characterized by IR spectroscopy and SEM. The agglomerates were formulated as tablets and evaluated for hardness, friability, disintegration and dissolution rate. Keywords: spherical agglomerates, meloxicam, dissolution rate, di ethyl ether.
