Abstract

FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF AYURVEDIC EYE DROP FOR THE TREATMENT OF EYE FLU, USING TULSI, CHAMELI, BABOOL & NEEM

Ranjeet Kumar Maurya*

Abstract

Conjunctivitis, also known as "eye flu," is a common ocular ailment that is marked by redness, swelling, and discomfort. The search for effective traditional herbal therapies has been prompted by the growing interest in natural and Ayurvedic treatments. With a blend of Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), Chameli (Jasminum grandiflorum), Babool (Vachellia nilotica), and Neem (Azadirachta indica), which are known for their antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and calming qualities, the formulation and evaluation of Ayurvedic eye drops is the main focus of this study. Standard Ayurvedic processes were followed in the preparation of the eye drop formulation to ensure stability and sterility. To optimise therapeutic efficacy and ensure safety for ocular usage, the plant extracts were blended in precise ratios. Promising outcomes were seen in the preliminary in-vitro assessments, which included pH testing, sterility, and antibacterial activity. In preliminary testing, the formulation showed no evidence of irritation, a pH appropriate for ocular administration, and strong antibacterial activity against typical microorganisms causing eye sickness. Additional in-vivo research was carried out on a particular sample group to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy in mitigating symptoms like redness, itching, and discharge. The findings imply that the Ayurvedic eye drops, which are naturally derived and have fewer adverse effects than standard chemical-based treatments, offer a safe and efficient substitute for treating ocular flu. It is advised that more investigations and bigger clinical studies be conducted in order to validate these results and provide standardised dose forms.
