A CLINICAL STUDY TO EVALUATE THE COMBINED EFFECT OF AVP CHURNA (INDIGENOUS FORMULATION) WITH KANCHANARATRIPHALA KWATHA AND BRAHMI TAILA PRATIMARSHA NASYA IN HYPOTHYROIDISM

. Abstract Backgroud: Hypothyroidism is a hypo-metabolic clinical state resulting from inadequate production of thyroid hormones for prolonged period. The prevalence of hypothyroidism in India is 11%, compared with only 2%–4.6% in the Western population.[1] The global burden of hypothyroidism is significant. With the increasing incidence of hypothyroidism day by day, there is an increasing demand to find an effective alternative Ayurvedic treatment for this condition, and so the present study was selected as an attempt to find an effective alternative ayurvedic treatment for hypothyroidism. Objective of the study: To evaluate the combined effect of AVP Churna (indigenous formulation) with kanchanara-triphala kwatha and brahmi taila pratimarsha nasya in the management of hypothyroidism. Materials and Methods: A single group open labelled clinical trial with pre - post test design was carried out in Government Ayurveda Medical College and Hospital, Mysuru Data was collected as per the proforma prepared for the purpose of the study. Pratimarsha Nasya Karma with Brahmi Taila for 45 days, AVP Churna with kanchamara triphala Kwatha as Anupana for 45 days were taken as an intervention. The data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The result on TSH value of 40 subjects after the intervention showed statistically highly significant result with p value 0.00043. Result on Zulewski’s clinical score for hypothyroidism showed statistically highly significant result with p value 0.00020. Conclusion: After the com pletion of intervention for 45 days, there was statistically highly significant result in reducing the TSH levels and relieving the signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism.
