Abstract

AN AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF VANDHYATVA W.S.R. TO PRIMARY INFERTILITY: A CASE STUDY

Abstract

Vandhyatva (infertility) primarily refers to the inability of a person to contribute to the conception of having one year of unprotected intercourse. Healthy women contribute towards the health of whole nation. There are many health related abnormalities which not only affect the physical health but also the psychological burden, one on the rise in many countries is infertility. According to recent reporting of WHO around 17.5% of the adult population are experiencing infertility. In Ayurveda infertility can be correlated with Vandhyatva or with Vandhya Yonivyapada. It is mainly caused by imbalance of Garbhasambhava Samagri which includes Ritu, Kshetra, Ambu, Beeja, and vitiated Vata and Pitta Doshas. Also it includes Ativyayama (over exercise), Loss of Bala (low strength), Vihara (modern lifestyle) and Ahara (unhealthy dietary habits). Modern science introduced various concepts and medicines but they are not free from side effects. So it is need of an hour to find out the solution which is having fecund effects, less side effects and affordable to the needy once. In Ayurveda treatment is mainly based on balancing the state of Dhatus and Doshas. Panchakarma plays an important role in treating infertility in which Shodhana by Virechana followed by Shamana Aushadhi has tremendous effects. A patient attended with diagnosed case of primary infertility of unknown cause with three consecutive IUI failure. The patient was managed with Ayurvedic treatment protocol by Deepana, Amapachana then Sharir Shudhi by Virechana followed by Shamana Aushadhi along with Vrishya, Balya, Rasayana dravyas. Successful conception was achieved in this patient through Ayurvedic management.
