INTRODUCTION OF SILPHIUM PERFOLIATUM AND IT’S PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITY

. Abstract Silphium perfoliatum, commonly known as cup plant, it is a perennial species native to the central United States, belonging to the Asteraceae family. This plant is characterized by its large, opposite, and deeply lobed leaves that form a "cup" around the stem, which retains water. Silphium perfoliatum has become of increasing interest for it has medicinal properties ecological and agricultural benefits, including its role in soil conservation, wildlife habitat, and potential as a bioenergy crop due to its high biomass production. The plant is also noted some pharmacological activity like anti-microbial activity, antidiabetic activity and Anti-oxidant activity. its adaptability to a range of soil types and its drought tolerance, making it an attractive candidate for sustainable agriculture practices. Additionally, S. perfoliatum has potential medicinal applications, though its use in this regard requires further investigation. future potential of Silphium perfoliatum in various industries, emphasizing its importance in environmental sustainability and bioenergy research.
