Abstract

Dr. Meenakshi Amrutkar* and Dr. Apurva Save

Abstract

Lips are one of the most distinct features of the face. The lips are said to be coated with a layer of stratum corneum, which has a low moisture absorption ability as they lack sweat glands; therefore when exposed to conditions such as wind, heat, or pollution, they dry up, crack, and bleed. Ayurveda refers to this drying and cracking of the lips as vataja oshtha prakop. The lips of the person suffering from vata prakop are dry, cracked, blackish in colour and might bleed at times. For these complaints, treatment includes using Sneha for internal as well as external application. Lepa and Malhars are snigdha in nature and help in combating the rukshata caused by vata. Lepa kalpana are grouped into several types according to their function. In this study, we created Raladi lepa in three different proportions to determine the optimal manner to apply and use it for therapy purposes. This lepa has been analyzed, and the results will be explained.

Keywords: Lepa, Vataj Oshtha roga, Raladi lepa, Sneha.
