Abstract

EFFICACY OF NETRA PARISHEK AND BIDALAKA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF EXTERNAL HORDEOLUM - A CASE REPORT

Abstract

External Hordeolum is an acute suppurative inflammation of eyelash follicle and its associated glands of Zeis or Moll (1). It may be correlated with the disease termed as “Anjannamika” in classical literature of Ayurveda (2). A small boil in the lid margin which is soft, moderately painful, copper red in color and characterized by burning and pricking sensations is known as “Aajannamika” (3). The case chosen in this study, patient has been suffering from pain, itching, watering from right eye, swelling in the right upper eyelid. “Netra Parishek” therapy (ocular therapeutic procedure) or it can be also be said as eye irrigation therapy with the decoction of Ayurvedic medicinal drugs namely Triphala, Haridra, Yastimadhu was done for 7 days twice a day, followed by a paste application (Bidalaka) on external surface of eye lids ,of herbal medicinal drugs Haridra , Hartiki ,Yastimadhu, Devdaru (Madhukyadi Bidalaka) was done twice a day daily for next 7 days and taken a follow up after each 7 days . Patient got complete relief from the presenting signs and symptoms.
