TERMINALIA ARJUNA: THE GEM OF MEDICINE

Abstract Since ancient times, people have used medicinal plants to treat illnesses and preserve health, and this tradition is being used today. A substantial supply of medicinal substances for the treatment of human illnesses has been found in herbal plants. The Combretaceae family includes the medicinal plant Terminalia arjuna (Roxb.) Wight & Arn., which is recognised for its diverse phytochemical profile. Being a source of several active ingredients, it has a variety of therapeutic properties, including anti-hypertensive, antibacterial, hepatoprotective, anticancer, cardioprotective, antidiabetic, and gastroprotective effects. This plant is also said to improve the process of bone mineralisation and wound healing. The tree's numerous components contain a variety of bioactive compounds, including minerals, triterpenoids, glycosides, flavonoids, tannins, and phenolics. No adverse effects related to its administration have been reported as of yet. Although there are a number of studies that support its usage to treat disorders, more study is still needed to pinpoint its precise processes. Several aspects of T. arjuna's ethno-medical, phytochemical, pharmacognostical, pharmacological, and clinical importance to various ailments are covered in this thorough review, which also highlights the plant's numerous therapeutic qualities.
