MANAGEMENT OF SHEETAPITTA THROUGH AYURVEDA – A CASE STUDY

Abstract Sheetapitta is one of the most common allergic skin diseases described in Ayurveda. The symptoms of Sheetapitta like Mandal (circular rashes), Shotha (Swelling), Kandu (itching), Toda (pain), Chardi (vomiting), Jwara (fever) and Daha (burning sensation) makes the individual annoyed and irritated. Many of antihistaminic agents in modern medicine show instant relief in symptoms but frequent relapse occurs. Its management in Ayurveda is successfully done by following the principle of Shodhana & Shamana. A 25-years old male, presented with complaints of reddish lesions all over the body on and off for 5 Years but the frequency increased 3 Months back. The lesions were associated with Burning sensation, pain, itching which aggravated more during evening hours, on exposure to cold climate, after playing games & performing exercises. Diagnosed as Sheeta-Pitta vis-à-vis Urticaria, this case was managed with Virechana karma and Shamana Aushadhis and rashes almost disappeared after the treatment. This case concluded that for chronic condition of skin disorder, Virechana along with Shamana Chikitsa is the best therapy for elimination of vitiated Doshas.
