ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF FLAVONOID "QUERCETIN" FROM OCIMUM TENUIFLORUM L.Rishi kesh Meena* and Anju Meena Deparment of Botany Govt.J.D.B. Girls College Kota-324005, India. Abstract Ocimum tenuiflorum L. is an important medicinal herb belonging to family Lamiaceae. It is commonly known as ‘Shyama tulsi. The family Labiateae is one of the largest families, which comprises the larger proportion of medicinal plant species. Ocimum is one of the important genera of family Labiateae. Ocimum species, often reffered to as the “king of the herb”. Flavonoid "quercetin" was isolated from in vivo (leaf, stem, seed and root) and in vitro (callus) of the species. The dried samples were separately soxhlet extracted in 80% methanol and then re-extracted with petroleum ether, diethyl ether and ethyl acetate. The fraction was concentrated and subjected to TLC plate. The Rf value of isolated quercetin and standard quercetin was calculated. The purified material was subjected to its IR spectra, HPLC and identified as "quercetin". This study is also of practical importance because quercetin is an important ingredient of Ocimum tenuiflorum. Keywords: [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
