*Dr. Anandana and Dr. Deena Nath Singh
. Abstract Sthaulya, described in Ayurveda as the pathological accumulation of Meda Dhatu (fat tissue), closely parallels the modern medical condition of obesity, which has reached epidemic proportions worldwide. The rising prevalence of obesity poses significant public health challenges, contributing to increased risks of metabolic, cardiovascular, and psychosocial disorders. This article aims to provide a comprehensive and integrative review of the multifactorial causes of Sthaulya/obesity by synthesizing classical Ayurvedic etiological concepts with recent biomedical research and epidemiological data. The discussion encompasses dietary patterns, lifestyle behaviors, genetic predisposition, psychological influences, socioeconomic determinants, and environmental factors that collectively contribute to the onset and progression of obesity in the current era. Emphasis is placed on the convergence of traditional and contemporary perspectives, highlighting the relevance of holistic, individualized approaches to prevention and management. Recent global studies and trends are referenced to underscore the urgent need for multidisciplinary strategies in addressing this complex and growing health issue. Keywords: Sthaulya, Obesity, Kapha, Meda Dhatu, Agni Mandya, Diet, Modern Scenario. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
