RP- HPLC ESTIMATION OF ARTESUNATE IN TABLET DOSAGE FORM

Abstract

A simple, selective, rapid, precise and economical reverse phase HPLC method has been developed for the estimation of Artesunate in tablet dosage form. The method was carried out on a C18 inertsil (250×4.6mm) column with a mobile phase consisting of phosphate buffer (pH 3 with phosphoric acid): acetonitrile (50:50 v/v) at a flow rate of 1.0ml/min. Detection was carried out at 214nm. The retention time (Rt) of Artesunate was 17.09 minutes. The developed method was validated in the terms of accuracy, precision, linearity, limit of detection and limit of quantitation. The calibration curve was linear in the concentration range of 500 to 1500μg/ml with correlation coefficient of 0.999. The percentage recovery for artesunate was found to be 99.44%. The method was found to be robust and can be successfully used to determine the drug content of marketed formulations.
