AYURVEDIC NUTRICOSMETICS: THE ROLE OF SHAMANA GHRITA

Abstract In recent years, the convergence of nutrition and cosmetology has given rise to the concept of Nutricosmetics, which emphasizes enhancing beauty from within through dietary interventions and functional foods. This emerging field aligns closely with the foundational principles of Ayurveda, where internal balance and nourishment are seen as key to physical wellness and aesthetic vitality. Ayurvedic classics describe various herbal categories—Varnya (complexion-enhancing), Tvachya (skin-nourishing), and Vayasthapana (age-defying)—that support skin health through internal rejuvenation and Dosha balance. Among traditional Ayurvedic substances, Ghrita (clarified butter) stands out as a potent natural nutricosmetic agent. Revered for its nourishing, rejuvenating, and adaptogenic qualities, Ghrita supports digestive fire (Agni), strengthens immunity (Ojas), and enhances tissue health (Dhatu Poshana), making it uniquely suited to improve complexion, delay aging, and promote inner vitality. This review explores the alignment of nutricosmetic science with Ayurvedic wisdom and presents Ghrita as a bridge between ancient holistic practices and contemporary beauty and wellness. Keywords: .
