FORMULATION AND OPTIMIZATION OF HERBAL GEL

Abstract

The topical delivery of drugs through the skin is an effective and targeted therapy for local dermatological disorders. Topical gel is the most preferred dosage form which provides faster release of drug. Herbal gels are formulated using natural gelling agents, herbal extracts and volatile oils. These gels provide multi-therapeutic effects with negligible adverse effects and have similar rheological properties of synthetic gels. In the present study several trial batches with different combinations of natural gelling agents were formulated and evaluated. The optimization of the best trial batch was done using software Design Expert (9.0.3.1).
