EFFECT OF DOXORUBICIN AND VITAMIN E, A SEPARATELY AND IN COMBINATION ON SELECTED KEY ENZYMATIC ACTIVITIES INVOLVED IN THE CARBOHYDRATE AND TCA CYCLE IN RAT TISSUES
Vijayudu Bandela*, Harish Babu Kuruba, Venkatakrishnaiah Yakkaluri, Rajeswara
Abstract The key enzymatic activity levels like Phosphorylase a, Phosphorylase ab, Aldolase, Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were well known to be involved in carbohydrates metabolism and Malate dehydrogenase (MDH), Succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) are enzymes involved in TCA cycle. Albino rats treated with 20 mg per kg weight of Dox, 100 mg per kg weight of vitamin E and 50 IU per kg weight of Vitamin A separately and in combination over 10 weeks period (weekly doses), all the above enzymatic activities were determined. Dox at the administrated doses appear to increase all the enzymatic activities involved in the carbohydrates metabolism of rat tissues. Increased levels of Phosphorylase activity levels followed by increased levels of Aldolase activity this suggest an increased glycolysis and operation of HMP shunt path way in the rat tissues under Dox stress. Further the study showed decreased levels of MDH, SDH activity in the rat tissues under Dox stress, which is an indication of depression of oxidative metabolism. The Dox plus vitamin E and Dox plus vitamin A in combination treated rat tissues showed normalized levels of all the enzymatic activity levels and this might be due to scavenging mechanism of the antioxidants like vitamin E and A in the current study. Keywords: Doxorubicin, vitamin E, vitamin A, Phosphorylase a, Phosphorylase ab, Aldolase, LDH, MDH, SDH, Albino Rat Tissues. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
