PHYTOCHEMICAL FINGERPRINTING AND SURFACE MORPHOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF SOOTHAGAVAYUVUKU CHOORANAM (SVVC) BY HPTLC, FTIR, AND SEM TECHNIQUES
Dharshini Megha B.*, Nalina Saraswathi K.
Abstract Background: Chooranam in Siddha medicine refers broadly to powdered medicinal formulations used either directly or as a base. Soothagavayuvuku chooranam (SVVC) is a multi-herbal Siddha formulation used in treating PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) an endocrine disorder of women. Aim & Objectives: To authenticate the raw drugs of SVVC, identify and quantify various phytocomponents, functional groups to visualize the surface morphology through HPTLC (High-Performance Thin Layer Chromatography), FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy), SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) analysis. Materials And Methods: According to classic Siddha literature,"Anubhava vaithiya muraigal" by Dr C.N. Kuppusamy, Soothagavayuvuku chooranam (SVVC)is prepared and subjected to HPTLC, FT-IR& SEM analysis. Results: HPTLC finger printing analysis of the sample reveals the presence of five versatile phytoconstituents. FT-IR analysis showed the presence of bioactive phytochemicals, including flavonoids, phenolic compounds, tannins etc and SEM visualizes average particle size of the SVVC ranges from 50 µm to 112 µm. Conclusion: Hence standardization using modern instrumental techniques is done before toxicity testing to ensure the quality, consistency, and reliability of the drug Soothagavayuvuku chooranam (SVVC)and further toxicity studies be carried out in future. Keywords: Soothagavayuvukku chooranam (SVVC), Standardization, FT-IR, Morphology, Fingerprinting, Analytical validation. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
