UNVEILING THE ANTIMICROBIAL POTENTIAL OF BIFIDOBACTERIUM BREVE AGAINST ENTEROCOCCUS FAECALIS
*Mokhtar Jawad Kadhim
Abstract Seventy samples of feces were taken from hospitals in Baghdad, Iraq. Fifteen samples were identified by biochemical and phenotypic testing as belonging to Enterococcus faecalis. This was verified using the Vitek system and 16S rRNA sequencing genes. The presence of the VanA, Esp, and Ace virulence genes in the isolates, was determined by using the polymerase chain reaction. Diffusion assays demonstrated that Bifidobacterium breve effectively inhibited E. faecium. In order to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration, (MIC) for the extract, susceptibility testing was carried out at a number of different concentrations, including 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16, and 1/32. The Bifidobacterium breve extract significantly inhibited E. faecalis isolates (p Keywords: Enterococcus faecalis, Bifidobacterium breve, and virulent factors.
