REVISITING AYURVEDA’S CLASSICAL FOUNDATIONS: RELEVANCE OF THE BRIHAT-TRAYI AND LAGHU-TRAYI IN CONTEMPORARY HEALTHCARE
Dr. Bhavya Khurana*, Dr. Sanika Abhay Virkar, Dr. Shruti Saxena, Dr. Mariyam Mohammad Asif Baduda
Abstract Ayurveda's traditional wisdom has resurged in modern health care due to its preventive and holistic approach. Contemporary challenges—lifestyle disorders, chronic stress, and environmental changes—underscore the relevance of Ayurveda's core frameworks. This review argues that the classical Ayurvedic texts, Brihat-Trayi and Laghu-Trayi, remain critical as reference sources for modern, patient-centred, and integrative medicine. These texts not only document established therapeutic methods but also highlight the importance of preventive care, lifestyle management, nutrition, mental health, and ethical medical practice. Notably, the fundamental principles outlined in these treatises remain corroborated by contemporary scientific research, underscoring the pharmacological, immunological, and clinical significance of Ayurvedic botanicals, formulations, and diagnostic methodologies. Integrating the collective knowledge of the Brihat-Trayi and Laghu-Trayi into contemporary healthcare can advance patient-centred care, foster personalised treatment plans, and provide sustainable solutions to numerous emerging health challenges. By integrating traditional Ayurvedic principles with contemporary scientific progress, this review highlights the significant potential of Ayurveda to make a meaningful contribution to global health and wellness.
