PHYTODENTISTRY: THE ROLE OF INDIGENOUS HERB IN ORAL HEALTH IN INDIA

Abstract More than 800 species of microorganisms harbour in the oral cavity. The use of herbs is an ancient tradition and can be an alternative to conventional treatments for oral diseases. Therefore, dental practitioners should be aware of the growing trend of herbal products and understand their mechanisms of action to treat and alleviate dental problems. Bioactive constituents in herbal medicine can limit the production of proinflammatory mediators, induce apoptosis, possess immune-enhancing effects, and contribute to safer, cheaper, and greener dentistry.
