IMPORTANCE OF RITUCHARYA IN PREVENTION OF SEASONAL DISEASES: A NARRATIVE REVIEW
Dr. Snehal Rudraxi*, Dr. Shishir Rudraxi
Abstract Seasonal variations exert a profound influence on human health by altering physiological functions, immune responses, and susceptibility to diseases. Changes in temperature, humidity, wind, and environmental allergens contribute to the occurrence of seasonal illnesses such as respiratory tract infections, allergic disorders, gastrointestinal infections, skin diseases, and vectorborne illnesses. Ayurveda addresses these seasonal influences through the concept of Ritucharya, a seasonal regimen that prescribes appropriatee modifications in diet (Ahara), lifestyle (Vihara), sleep, regular physical activity, and purification therapies according to six Indian seasons. Ritucharya aims to maintain the equilibrium of Doshas, preserve Agni, enhance Vyadhikshamatva (disease resistance), and promote overall health. Contemporary research also supports the importance of seasonal adaptation, healthy nutrition, adequate sleep, regular exercise, and circadian rhythm in maintaining immune competence. This narrative review summarizes classical Ayurvedic principles of Ritucharya, correlates them with modern scientific concepts, and discusses their role in preventing seasonal diseases. Adoption of Ritucharya as a preventive healthcare strategy may reduce disease burden, improve immunity, and contribute to sustainable public health.
