DIFFERENT AYURVEDIC TAILA FORMULATIONS ON INDRALUPTA AND KHALITYA W.S.R. TO BHAISHAJYA RATNAVALI
Dr. Shardul Chavan, Dr. G. R. Asore, Dr. Vaishnavi C. Mohitkar
Abstract Bhaishajya Ratnavali, an authentic 18th-century Ayurvedic compendium authored by Kaviraj Govinda Das Sen, provides systematic descriptions of diseases along with their line of treatment. Khalitya and Indralupta are two closely related Kshudraroga arising from vitiation of Pitta and Vata dosha associated with Rakta, the former manifesting as diffuse, gradually progressive thinning and shedding of hair over the scalp, and the latter as a more acute, circumscribed loss of hair over one or more patches, comparable respectively to androgenetic alopecia/telogen effluvium and alopecia areata of contemporary dermatology. Within the Kshudraroga Chikitsa Prakarana, the author has described a series of medicated Taila (oil) formulations specifically indicated for Indralupta (patchy hair loss/alopecia areata) and Khalitya (diffuse hair fall). Unlike the parishishta (appendix) yogas of kesharanjana that are largely lepa- and nasya-based, these Taila kalpana are prepared by classical Sneha Paka Vidhi using Tila taila as the base, combined with Kalka dravya rich in keshya (hair-tonic), rasayana (rejuvenative) and ropana (healing) properties, along with Drava dravya such as swarasa or kashaya of Bhringaraja, Guduchi, Vatavaroha and allied drugs. Keywords: Indralupta, Khalitya, Taila, Bhaishajya Ratnavali, Bhringaraja, Keshya. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
