FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF PHARMACOSOMES CONTAINING ORNIDAZOLE

Abstract

Pharmacosomes is a potential approach in vesicular drug delivery system which exhibits several advantages over conventional vesicular drug delivery systems. They may exist as ultrafine vesicular, micelle or hexagonal aggregates depending upon the chemical structure of the drug-lipid complex. They help in achieving increased bioavailability, reduce the cost of therapy and provide controlled as well as targeted release of drug, reduction in the drug leakage and toxicity while the therapeutic efficacy increases. Ornidazole forms complexe with Phosphatidylcholine in various ratios using solvent evaporation method. Ornidazole Pharmacosomes were prepared and subjected to in-vitro evaluation tests solubility and drug content, In-vitro diffusion. In-vitro diffusion rate of Ornidazole was significantly higher. The results indicated for a sustained drug delivery of Ornidazole pharmacosomes.
