Abstract

Ashish Pareek*, J.P. Verma, Ashok Kumar, P. Hemant Kumar Narinder Singh

Abstract

Introduction: Sclerotherapy is described for treating internal haemorrhoids specially grade I &II. The Sclerotherapy procedure employs a Sclerosant (kind of chemical) that scars the inflamed tissue, reducing the haemorrhoid’s blood-flow and its symptoms.Currently available conservative treatment mode for bleeding piles is not so effective. Patient of haemorrhoids has hesitation about surgery. So there should be a way between medicinal & surgical measures like sclerotherapy. With Sclerotherapy treatment, recovery time is shorter and the procedure threatens less risky side-effects; additionally, because the procedure can be done in O.P.D., it does not require a stay in the hospital. The phenol is very irritant in nature, and so painful. Sometimes it lead to sterile abscess in anal region. While Apamarg kshar is a herbal product and less irritant in nature, it may be a great substitute of phenol in sclerotherapy. Methodology: Total 30 patients were selected of hemorrhoids Grade I & Grade II on the basis of simple random Sampling (SRS) procedure & distributed in 2 equal groups randomly by computer generated random table. After completion of trial symptoms were compared with baseline at beginning. In group A Apamarg kshar was used as a sclerosant and in group B standard Albright solution used as a sclerosant. Result: In group A out of 15 patients complete relief was seen in the 10 patients, marked relief in 01 patients, moderate relief in 03 patients, mild relief in 01 patients and no patient was seen with no relief. In group B Out of 15 patients complete relief was seen in the 06 patients, marked relief in 03 patients, moderate relief in 05 patients, mild relief in 01 patients and no patient was seen with no relief. Conclusion: After assessment, it was noted that role of Apamarg kshar was effective when it was used as a sclerosant in patients suffering with hemorrhoids grade I & II.
