SINO NASAL MUCORMYCOSIS – CAUSING HEMIPLEGIA A CASE REPORT
D. Sridhara Narayanan*, Merlyn Ann Varghese, P. M. Hari
Abstract Fungal infection of paranasal sinuses is an increasingly recognizedentity both in normal and immunocompromised individuals. Paranasalmycosis manifests as two distinct entities, a benign or noninvasiveinfection and more serious invasive infection which occurs inimmunocompromised individuals and characterized by its rapid onset, ability to invade tissues and cause of destruction. Early diagnosis isvital in these infections because delay in initiation of treatment can belife threatening due to propensity of fungi to invade adjacent bloodvessels and to embolize to distant organs including brain. In this articlewe report a rare case of sinonasal mucormycosis causing hemiplegia. Keywords: mucormycosis, hemiplegia. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
