SURFACTANTS AS BIOCIDES WITH EICHHORNIA CRASSIPES– ZN2+ INHIBITOR SYSTEM ON MILD STEEL IN CONTROLLING MICROBIALLY INDUCED CORROSION (MIC) IN AQUEOUS MEDIUM
N. Kavitha* and P. Manjula
Abstract The biocidal inhibition efficiencies of the surfactants such as cationic surfactant of N- Cetyl – N,N,N- trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and anionic surfactant of Sodium Dodecyl Benzene Sulphonate (SDS) in the presence and absence of Eichhornia crassipes (Water hyacinth) – Zn2+ system in aqueous medium containing 60ppm Cl- ion which is normally present in the cooling water system have been analysed. On comparing these two biocides, CTAB provides an excellent biocidal effect against the Micobially Induced Corrosion (MIC) on mild steel immersed in aqueous medium containing 60ppm Cl-ion. Keywords: Eichhornia crassipes, Surfactants, Microbially Induced Corrosion (MIC), CTAB and SDS. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
