Abstract The present paper describes the synthesis of (E)-N'-(3,4,5- trimethoxybenzylidene)-2-(2-chloro-4-fluorophenyl)acetohydrazide derivatives 4a-k, prepared in a three-steps from commercially available 2-(2-chloro-4-fluorophenyl)acetic acid 1. The structural determination of the newly synthesized acetohydrazide-hydrazones was confirmed by analytical tools like 1H NMR, mass and IR. These compounds were evaluated against a panel bacterial and fungal pathogens such as Gram‐positive (Staphylococcus.pyogens and Staphylococcus aureus),Gram‐negative (Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas .aeruginosa) and Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans with reference to Chloramphenicol and Nystatin as the standard drug. Compounds 4a-k showed moderate to good antibacterial activity but displayed weak fungal activity. Keywords: Acetohydrazides, Antibacterial activity, Hydrazones, Chloramphenicol, Rotamers.
