MESENCHYMAL STEM CELLS: A NOVEL APPROACH IN REGENERATIVE MEDICINE
*Dr Seema Tripathy and Prof. Prafulla Kumar Mohanty
Abstract Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are heterogenous cell populationderived from the mesodermal mesenchyme. MSCs reside throughoutthe adult organism and possess the ability to regenerate cell types ofspecific origin. These help to maintain tissue homeostasis and areactively involved in repair processes. MSCs are developed therapeuticagents to treat several diseases of integumentary, musculoskeletal, cardiac and nerve tissues. Allogeneic transplants of MSCs do notproduce any adverse effect which may be due to their immunetolerancecapacity. This review provides an integrated overview of the currentconcepts of MSCs and their biological perspectives that supportdifferent aspect of regenerative medicine. Keywords: Mesenchymal stem cells, Mesodermal mesenchyme, Allogeneic transplants, Regenerative medicine. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
