Abstract Background: the aim of this study is to estimating the share of production (number of papers) and their corresponding impact (number of citations) on h-index among Iranian researchers. Methods: the number of articles, number of citations and the h-index of 542 Iranian researchers from Google Scholar data base were registered in this study. To find the mechanism of association between the number of articles and the number of citations with h-index the mediation model was used. Results: the number of citations has a mediation role in the path of association between number of articles and h-index. The direct effect of the number of articles on h-index is 16%. Conclusion: Half of the published papers among Iranian researchers have not impact and they are not accounted in h-index.
