AN INTRODUCTION TO ORODISPERSED TABLETS

Abstract The route of administration is the way through which the dosage form is administered into the body for treatment of various diseases and disorders. Various routes of administrations play a marked role in the bioavailability of the active drug in the body. Recent developments in the dosage form technology resulted in the development of orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs) with improved patient compliance and convenience. ODTs are solid unit dosage forms, which disintegrate or dissolve rapidly in the mouth without chewing and water. Orally disintegrating tablets provide an advantage particularly for paediatric and geriatric populations who have difficulty in swallowing conventional tablets and capsules.
