PERINATAL AND PEDIATRIC VITAMIN D: AN EYE OPNER
*Dr. Vishnu Kumar Tandon, Dr. Vishal Mehrotra and Dr. Kriti Garg
Abstract Vitamin D is not a true vitamin, because individuals with adequate exposure to sunlight do not require any dietary supplements. As a part of it‟s autocrine function, vitamin D has multiple non-skeletal effects and these depend solely on it‟s optimal circulating levels. It is suggested in literature that vitamin D deficiency lowers the risk of many long latency diseases like cancers, autoimmune diseases and cardiovascular diseases, and it also decreases the risk of infectious diseases and improves fetal health, muscle function and exercise performance. This article highlights the significance of vitamin D levels in Pediatric population thereby preventing number of systemic diseases which may develop in future in vitamin D deficient individuals. Keywords: Perinatal, Pediatric, Vitamin D, Hypocalcemia, Calcitriol. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
