PHYTOCHEMICAL SCREENING AND GC- MS PROFILING OF PIPER NIGRUM L.
A. Zahira*, Dr K Thamilmani and Dr R Rafi Mohamed
Abstract The present study investigates the presence of different secondary metabolites in the methanolic seed extract of Piper nigrum and further analysis of the components present in it by GC-MS analysis. The qualitative phytochemical screening revealed the existence of alkaloids, flavonoids, carbohydrate, proteins, phenols, saponin, tannins, phytosterols and terpeniods. Totally 55 bioactive phytochemical compounds were identified from P.nigrum by GC – MS analysis. This study forms a source for the biological characterization and phytopharmaceutical significance of the compounds identified. The presence of various bioactive compounds justifies the usage of black pepper as an herbal alternative for treating various diseases. Keywords: Piper nigrum, GC – MS analysis, Phytochemical Screening, Phytoconstituent, secondary metabolites, medicinal plants. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
