AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF KASHTARTAVA WSR TO PRIMARY DYSMENORRHOEA

Abstract Kashtartava can be compared with Primary Dysmenorrhea upto some extent on the basis of its signs and symptoms. It is tridoshaja vyadhi with vata predominance. There is derangement of Apana and Vyana Vayu along with vitiation of rasa dhatu . Ayurvedic drugs such as Bala (sida cordifolia) is considered as best Vatahar Balya, sangrahik, and Asvagandha (Withania somnifera) vata-kaph shamak Balya can be used in management of Kashtartava (Primary Dysmenorrhea) in form of oral therapy. Material and methods: A total 25 female patients, age group in between 11-40 years were selected from OPD of Prasuti Tantra OPD S.S.Hospital I.M.S. B.H.U., with chief complain of Kashtārvata (primary dysmenorrhoea) with scanty or average amount of blood loss during menses along with associated symptoms for more than 2 cycles without any organic pathology. Necessary investigations were done for registration of patient and rule out the exclusion criteria. A total therapy of 90 days was given with 4 follow ups, one after each month. Observations and Results: The result of the study was based on three parameters viz. Relief in intensity of pain, Relief (decrease) in duration of pain, Relief in associated symptoms. 60% patients were cured, 20% patients were improved, 12% patients were partially improved and only 8% patients were remains unchanged.
