PREVENTIVE AND CURATIVE EFFECT OF IPOMOEA OBSCURA LINN NEPHROLITHIASIS INDUCE IN RATS.

Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the preventive and curative effect of Ipomoea Obscura Linn on nephrolithiasis in rats. To do this, thirty Wister Rats were divided into 5 groups. Group A served as normal. B received 1% ethylene glycol in drinking water served as nephrolithiatic group. Rats in group C and D receive 100 and 200mg/kg body weight of aerial part of aqueous extract in drinking water from 1st day to 28th day. Ethylene glycol l(P<0.05) treatment increased creatinine, uric acid, calcium and protein and phosphate level in serum as well as in urine on day 14th and 28th. The results of the antinephrolithiatic activity screening have led to the conclusion that the ethanolic extract of Ipomoea obscura showed a significant antinephrolithiatic activity as is evidenced by significant reduction of elevated levels of creatinine, uric acid, calcium, phosphate in urine and blood serum respectively. On 28th day microscopic examination show more deposition of stone on nephrolithiatic group as compare to other group. In conclusion Ipomoea Obscura Linn had preventive effect on Nephrolithiasis.
