Abstract

Studies were carried out on phytochemical composition and antimicrobial activity of various extracts of leaves of Prosopis cineraria (Linn.) using disc diffusion method against multi drug resistant bacterias viz. Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Echerichia Coli. Ethanolic and aqueous extracts of leaves of P.cineraria reveal the presence of alkaloids, tannins and amino acids. Results obtained revealed that both ethanol and aqueous extracts of the leaves of plants exhibited inhibitory effect on the growth of the tested microorganisms. The inhibitory effects produced by the aqueous and ethanolic extracts on Staphylococcus aureus and Echerichia Coli were significantly higher than that of inhibitory effect produced on Pseudomonas aeruginosa (p
