ENDOPHYTIC FUNGAL DIVERSITY FROM ENDEMIC PLANTS OF TIRUMALA HILLS IN EASTERN GHATS AND THEIR ANTI-CANDIDAL ACTIVITYSuresh Bhargav Desaraju, Vijaya Tartte*, Venkateswarulu Nagam, Chandramouli Kalla, Krishnakanth Sarma, Chamarthi Nagaraju
Abstract The present study investigates the exploitation of Rhynchosia beddomei and Terminalia pallida endemic medicinal plants of Eastern Ghats (Tirumala hills) for healthy symbiotic association for isolation of endophytic fungi and screening of anti-candidal activity. A total of nine endophytic fungi were isolated, identified morphologically viz., Aspergillus flavus, Alternaria alternata. Helminthosporium sp., Trichoderma sp., Aspergillus niger, Beauveria sp., Fusarium oxysporum, Pencillium sp., Cladosporium delicatalum and tested towards the fungal pathogen (Candida tropicalis) for inhibitory activity of crude endophytic extracts.
