SYNTHESIS, CHARACTERIZATION, ANTIBACTERIAL AND ANTITUBERCULAR ACTIVITY OF SOME SUBSTITUTED N-[4-(3- PHENYL -ACRYLOYL)-PHENYL] - BENZAMIDEJahirul Islam Talukdar*, Monica Kachroo
Abstract N-(4-acetyl-phenyl)-4-substituted-benzamide was synthesized by reacting p-substituted benzoyl chloride with p-amino acetophenone. Chalcones have been further synthesized by reacting N-(4-acetylphenyl)- 4-substituted-benzamide with various substituted aromatic aldehydes in ethanolic KOH solution. The structures were confirmed by their, IR, 1HNMR, 13C-NMR and CHN analytical data. The title compounds { 6(a-e) and 7(a-e)} were screened for their antibacterial activity against two gram-positive bacteria i.e. Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilus and two gram-negative bacteria i.e. Salmonella typhi and Klebsiella pneumoniae using ampicillin as standard, each at a concentration of 100 μg/ml, adapting agar diffusion method. The compounds were also screened for their antitubercular activity against M.Tuberculosis using Microplate Alamar Blue Assay method. Keywords: N-(4-acetyl-phenyl)-4-substituted-benzamide, Chalcone, Antibacterial, Antitubercular activity. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
