“CANCERâ€- AN INTRODUCTION AND RECENT ADVANCES IN ANTI CANCER DRUGS.
Shefali Barkat Dobani*, Dr. Nutan Rao and Dr. Sudha Rathod
Abstract Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body. There are over 100 different types of cancer, and each is classified by the type of cell that is initially affected. The symptoms vary according to its type. The diagnosis and treatment depend upon the level of severity of the disease. Antineoplastics or Anticancer drugs are the drugs that prevent or inhibit the maturation and proliferation of neoplasms. Antineoplastic agents travel the body and destroy cancer cells. Traditional cancer chemotherapy relies on the fact that rapidly proliferating cancer cells are more likely to be killed by a cytotoxic agent. Recent discoveries and advances for tumor-targeting drug delivery in cancer therapy has been evolving from the traditional chemotherapy with the hope to minimize undesirable side effects and improve the quality of life of cancer patients. This review article focuses on the introduction of cancer including its symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, drug classification and the recent modifications or advances that are emerging in the anti cancer drug category for its better and increased chemotherapeutic activity. Keywords: Malignant, Metastatic, Chemotherapy, Phytosterols, Metal complexes as anti-cancer agents, Anti-cancer drug conjugates, Monoclonal antibodies. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
