A REVIEW: AN IMPACT OF INULA RACEMOSA (PUSKARMULA) ON DYSLIPIDEMIA AND OBESITY

Abstract As we all know that it is important to nourish the heart and ensure optimal circulation throughout the body for the survival. However, 230 million peoples all over the world are suffering from cardiovascular disease (CVD), which includes a wide range of diseases of the heart and blood vessels such as high blood pressure and chronic venous insufficiency. These diseases can lead to life threatening major risk factors such as heart attack and stroke, as well as chronic congestive heart failure. When one part of the cardiovascular system is damaged or injured it affects other parts of the system. Now a day‟s metabolic syndrome (MS) is increasing to an epidemic proportion globally which consist of Hyperglycaemia, Dyslipidemia and obesity. There is an urgent need of effective understanding of MS and its management, including the use of natural strategies that are affordable and efficacious. The holistic science of life known as Ayurveda has much to offer in this regard. Ayurveda describe along with a healthy diet and getting plenty of exercise, herbs such as inula racemosa, arjuna and guggul resin are able to provide positive support. These herbs may help with the prevention of atherosclerosis, lowering blood pressure, increasing capillary integrity, preventing destructive enzyme activity, and lowering LDL and triglyceride levels. The extract of roots of the plant Inula racemosa was subjected in the known cases of MS for evaluation of their cardio protective and hypoglycaemic activity. The root extract of Inula racemosa was found to be effective in correcting dyslipidemia and normalising the BMI. Keywords: CVD, Dyslipidemia, Hyperglycemia, Metabolic syndrome, Obesity.
